BATTERY POINT

Battery Point is Hobart's most historic suburb, located a short walk from Salamanca Place and the waterfront via Kelly's Steps. From small, olde world cottages to huge mansions, small apartment blocks and villas. Within an easy walking distance to the CBD, this area is always highly sought after from a renting perspective.

BLACKMANS BAY

A waterfront suburb built around the Blackmans Bay beach. A wide choice of houses, though predominantly modern, there are classic older styles as well. Situated 15 minutes drive south of Hobart, many properties enjoy views of the river and/or Mt. Wellington. A small shopping centre is centrally located and there are two primary schools in the area and a choice of restaurants.

BONNETT HILL

Situated south of Hobart along the Channel Highway and on the hill above Kingston Beach, Bonnet Hill has a variety of newer homes and mansions in a bush setting. Facing south there are magnificent views over Kingston and down to Bruny Island. A couple of minutes out of Kingston's variety of shopping centres, schools and utilities, Bonnet Hill is a small, quiet area yet still only about 12-15 minutes out of Hobart.

DYNNYRNE

One of Hobart's older suburbs, sandwiched between Battery Point, South Hobart and Sandy Bay. A mix of stately period homes on larger blocks to smaller cute brick and weatherboard cottages and houses. Many smaller shops are situated throughout the suburb together with a primary school and various utilities.

GEILSTON BAY

Geilston Bay, on the eastern shore, looks across the river to Mt Wellington. Only 10 minutes by car or bus to the city, it boasts excellent facilities including schools, yacht clubs, restaurants, pubs, sporting facilities and adjoins the busy Lindisfarne shopping precinct. Also 10 minutes from Hobart Airport, it offers waterfront holdings, hillside mansions and good value modern homes.

GLEBE

Adjacent to the CBD on its northern edge, the Glebe is set amongst the natural landscape of the Domain with its various major sporting facilities and next to the Botanical Gardens. It is one of Hobart's earliest suburbs and offers significant period style properties with expansive views to the mountain and river. It is within easy walking distance to the Royal Hobart Hospital and the walking tracks on the Domain.

HOBART CITY

Hobart is Tasmania's State capital, founded in 1804 as a penal colony,  and is the second oldest city in Australia after Sydney. It is the largest city in the State, the population of the greater Hobart area being approx. 245,000. Wandering around the city centre and waterfront on foot allows visitors to take in the classic architecture (eg Parliament House and the Theatre Royal) and one of the world's finest deepwater ports. New ultra-modern apartments are being built at vantage spots around the waterfront offering fantastic views and facilities at the doorstep.

HOWRAH

On the Eastern shore of the Derwent River, this suburb enjoys some spectacular views across the river to stunning Mt Wellington and only 10 minutes by car or bus into the city. Excellent facilities close at hand include schools, large shopping centres, yacht clubs, restaurants, pubs and sporting facilities (a large undercover pool, cricket and football grounds plus health clubs). Howrah is only 10 minutes from Hobart Airport and also has scenic ferry rides regularly across to the city from adjoining Bellerive. Properties range from modern family homes through to stunning executive residences.

KINGSTON

Kingston is the largest town in the Kingborough Municipality, located 13 kms south of Hobart. It has been one of Hobart's largest growth areas over the last two or three years. It has a fantastic beach (with adjacent large dog exercise area), two major shopping centres and many other large businesses, six primary and secondary schools, a large sporting complex and a beautiful golf course. Kingston also houses the headquarters of the Australian Antarctic Division. A wide variety of housing styles from older beachside bungalows to the latest 'green' housing estates and large modern homes promoting 'the Aussie dream.

LENAH VALLEY

Close to schools, hospitals, shopping centres, and recreational grounds, Lenah Valley is increasingly popular. Other features include a semi-bush setting, sweeping views, modern homes and a quiet atmosphere all within a 5 minute drive to the CBD. At the base of Mt Wellington, there is access to numerous mountain walks and leisure activities.

LINDISFARNE

An eastern shore suburb enjoying wonderful views across the river to Mt Wellington and only 10 minutes by car or bus from the city or airport. It has excellent facilities including schools, large shopping centres, yacht clubs, restaurants, pubs and sporting venues. This suburb is a mix of the old and the new. Waterfront holdings, mansions on the hill, good value modern housing and many historic period homes are just some of the many options to choose from.

MT NELSON

Situated on the western side of the river, this suburb climbs the hill behind Sandy Bay and offers wonderful views over the city, river and down to the Channel. Close to private schools, with the University of Tasmania at the bottom of the hill and also Hobart College at the top. One local shop only, but close to the viewing station at the top of Mt Nelson which is one of the earliest signal stations in Tasmania. A variety of older and '70s style brick and/or weatherboard homes mixed with a few townhouses, apartment blocksand modern homes.

MT STUART

Older suburb with character homes, close to the city with shops, recreational facilities and many utilities. Wonderful views up, down and across the river from many vantage points.

NEW TOWN

In the late 1800s this was Hobarts' most exclusive address and it still retains many grand period homes. It offers a wide variety of housing styles to suit most price ranges. Situated north of the city centre, 5 minutes by car, and adjoining the North Hobart restaurant area. Calvary Hospital and The Friends School are situated here.

NORTH HOBART

5 minutes drive and 10 minutes walk down to the city, North Hobart is a centre for superb restaurants, coffee shops, galleries and other entertainment. An older suburb with a variety of styles from larger character homes, some newer or renovated residences and heritage listed 'streets'. A popular area for "Gen X".

SANDY BAY

Situated 5 minutes south of the city centre following the line of the Derwent River, Sandy Bay has close proximity to a number of beaches and sailing clubs. Sandy Bay has many gracious older style homes situated in established, tree lined streets but there are also hillside areas with large luxury homes affording stunning views. A choice of private schools (most running private buses to many suburbs), gourmet shops, cafes and hotels including the Wrestpoint Hotel Casino. The University of Tasmania has a large campus in Sandy Bay, leading to a high demand of student accommodation.

SOUTH HOBART

Hobart inner suburb immediately south-west of the CBD offering many older stately mansions together with smaller 'art deco' homes and units. This suburb has a lovely village atmosphere and offers small corner shopping centres, schools and is close commuting or even walking distance to the city.

TAROONA

Taroona is situated 10-15 minutes from the city of Hobart and runs along the western shore of the Derwent River. This residential area, whose name comes from an Aboriginal word meaning 'seashell', has mainly developed since the 1930's with older style homes nearer the river while newer, ultra-modern sections of the suburb have grown up the hills behind them. Taroona is a family friendly 'leafy' suburb with a bush backdrop, offering a primary and high school and efficient bus transport into the city.

TOLMANS HILL

One of Hobart's newest suburbs with panoramic views right around Hobart. Further up the hillside above Mt Nelson and only a few minutes down the southern outlet into the city, you'll feel like you're living in an eagles aerie. All newer ultra-modern or architecturally designed homes in a modern sprawling sub-division.

WEST HOBART

Bordering the CBD and heading north-west to New Town these suburbs are filled with wonderful affordable period homes mixed in with newer townhouses. Walking distance generally to the city and close to the lively North Hobart restaurant scene and Art house cinema. Many homes enjoy great views over the city to the river. Schools are located nearby.
